Names matter.
16 years ago Hillary Rodham became Hillary Rodham Clinton became Hillary Clinton, so that Bill would not look emasculated. Now her opponents talk about "the Clintons". She is tied to the presidency of her husband, unable to be judged for herself. She has paid a big price for changing her public name.
Might help if Mr Clinton didn’t keep wading in every time there was a bit of mud thrown.
Here in the UK the fuss over a Black candidate compared to the lack of fuss over a woman candidate come over quite strongly. A black american woman wrote an article about how Obama was standing meant she now felt able to return to the USA with pride, but didn’t mention a woman standing as an issue. I guess racial politics plays much stronger than gender politics.
