Request Airbnb data for a city

Note, November 2016: I am heavily backlogged right now; recently I have not been able to keep up even with responding to requests (sorry – it’s nothing personal), never mind actually doing the data collection. I’ll be giving priority to requests that include shapefiles of region boundaries.

If you would like me to add a city to my public collection Airbnb listing maps and spreadsheets, please fill in this form. I will make best efforts to do so, and will post the results together with the others at or at (maps), which has a list of new entries at the top of the page for convenience. You may want to check those pages first.

I make no guarantees about the accuracy or usefulness of the results. While most data surveys have been accurate, a few are not. That said, every point on a map does correspond to a listing that is visible to a browser on the Airbnb website at the time it was collected, so if anything the statistics underestimate the number of listings in a city.

If you are looking for the source code, you can find it at GitHub.

The listings are provided as a contribution to the debates that surround Airbnb and its effects on the places where it operates. I accept that the maps may be used for a variety of purposes, but I am not interested in supporting short-term listings or supporting commercial use.

If you are able to find and provide a Shapefile for the city or other search area, including neighbourhood boundaries, that will improve the quality of the results (excluding listings outside the city boundaries, for example). If you think you can, please contact me by email (tom at tomslee dot net).

Project costs

There are costs associated with this project, mainly paying for computing resources on Amazon Web Services and for proxy services to be able to scrape data in a reasonable time. If you would like to contribute $5 or $10 (or equivalent) to the cost of running the site, donations are gratefully accepted but are entirely optional.

If you do choose to donate, please do not consider it a purchase: it is still possible that the survey will not yield the results you want. You can always donate afterwards instead.
